Commercial Locksmith and Door Service in Poway

Commercial locksmith and door service in Poway covers the tilt-up business park off Scripps Poway Parkway and the storefront retail along Poway Road. Commercial Lock & Door Co. repairs exit devices, closers, and storefront doors, and rekeys buildings across this part of San Diego County.

The business park and Poway Road are two different jobs

Poway is a working city. The business park off Scripps Poway Parkway is tilt-up concrete with production floors and clean rooms behind it.

The retail along Poway Road is aluminum storefront. Those are two different hardware problems, and we work on both. We quote per opening. Send photos of the door, the frame, and the hardware, tell us the address and the suite, and we write the scope from that. If an opening needs eyes on it before anything is priced, we say so and set a site visit instead of guessing.

Accounts are available when you want one: a single number to call, one keying record kept on file, and paperwork routed the way your accounting group wants it.

What the doors in Poway are actually made of

Knowing which building you have changes the fix. A sagging aluminum entry is usually a worn pivot or a loose bottom rail, not a lock problem.

A hollow metal door that will not latch is usually a frame that has moved or a strike that was never shimmed right. A door that slams shut has a closer with low fluid or sweep and latch speed valves set wrong, and tightening the arm does not correct either one.

Backcheck is a separate function on the same closer. It cushions the opening swing near full open, so a door caught by wind or shoved by a cart does not drive the lever into the wall or the sidelite frame. We measure the opening and confirm handing before quoting hardware, because a mortise body, a strike, and a closer arm are all handed decisions.

  • Industrial rear and side exits: rim devices, strike alignment, door bottoms chewed by pallet jacks
  • Storefront entries: pivots, deadlatch wear, hook bolt engagement, closer templating to the actual opening
  • Interior office and lab doors: mortise bodies, lever trim, spindle and hub wear
  • Pairs: surface vertical rods, top and bottom latch adjustment, astragal and coordinator issues
  • Labeled openings: hardware selected so the label survives the work

Keying a building that grew one tenant at a time

Plenty of Poway facilities were keyed in layers. A production expansion here, a suite split there, a lockset swapped by whoever was on site with whatever was on the shelf.

What that layering leaves behind is a ring full of keys and no record of what opens what.

The fix is a keying schedule, not a truck full of new locks. We chart the doors, keep the cylinders worth keeping, and pin the rest into a master key system with a real structure behind it. When someone leaves or a suite turns over, we change the pin stacks at that level and the old keys stop working without disturbing the rest of the building.

  • Master and grand master schedules charted and documented, with a copy left with you
  • Restricted keyways when duplication needs to happen on a signature, not at a hardware counter
  • Rekeys after a termination, a tenant turnover, or a lost ring
  • Interchangeable cores when you want the ability to pull a core and rekey an opening in seconds, with the pulled cores sent back to us for re-pinning

Storefront and exit hardware along Poway Road

Retail and restaurant doors on Poway Road run constant traffic and take wind coming down the valley. What wears out is predictable.

The deadlatch stops catching, the pivot lets the door drop and drag the threshold, and the closer wears fastest of all in that wind. Rear doors on those same buildings are hollow metal with a rim device, and that device gets dogged down all afternoon for deliveries, which is only allowed if the opening is not fire rated.

We carry common storefront door parts and template closers to the opening instead of guessing at a size. If a frame is out of square or a door has been hit, we say so before selling hardware that will not solve it.

Working with facilities and property managers

Work in occupied suites gets coordinated with both the property manager and the tenant, so nobody is drilling a lobby door in the middle of a business day.

Plant and lab work often lands between shifts or on a weekend, scheduled in advance with whoever controls building access. Off-hours labor carries a different rate, and we write that rate into the quote so it is settled before the window is set.

For portfolios with several Poway addresses, we walk the doors, separate what is failing from what is only worn, and prioritize exterior and egress openings first. Vendor onboarding paperwork, purchase orders, and net terms go through the office.

Nearby

The same tilt-up building stock continues from Poway down into Miramar, Kearny Mesa, and Sorrento Valley, and Escondido is a straight run north on the 15.

Poway questions

Can you rekey our building without replacing the locks?

Usually. If the cylinders are serviceable and the keyway is one we can pin, we rekey in place and issue new keys. Replacement makes sense when the hardware is worn out, the grade is too light for the traffic, or you want several keyways consolidated into one system.

Our rear exit is fire rated. Can we add a keypad or an electric strike to it?

It depends on the opening. A labeled door and frame limit what can be cut, and field drilling for a strike or a wire raceway voids the label. There is hardware built and listed for labeled openings. We look at the label, the frame, and the existing device before recommending anything.

Can the work happen between shifts in the business park?

Yes. Manufacturing and R and D tenants often want doors taken out of service on a weekend or overnight so the floor keeps running. We set the window in advance and confirm access with whoever holds the keys.

Do you handle several buildings under one account?

Yes. One point of contact, one keying record kept current across the addresses, and quotes written per site so each property bills clean.

Do you cover all of Poway or just the business park?

All of it. The tilt-up park off Scripps Poway Parkway, the retail centers along Poway Road, and the school, church, and district buildings in between. Tell us which kind of building you have when you send photos, because the hardware differs more than the drive does.

We are locked out of our suite. Can you open the door without damaging it?

Almost always. An office lockout on a commercial lever or mortise lock is opened by picking or bypass rather than drilling, and the hardware stays in service. If keys are missing rather than left inside, we can rekey the cylinder in the same visit. We verify you have authority over the suite before opening anything.
